The Practice

The practice of using arts to foster the growth of a community's identity and the expression of that identity has many different names; Community Cultural Development, Arts and Health, Disability Arts, Arts and Environment, Community Arts. It is undertaken by many different groups who recognise the role a creative environment can foster. Groups including; Local, State and Federal Governments, hospitals, prisons, broader arts or community organisations, and youth organisations, are all areas which benefit from community cultural development activities.

Community Cultural Development is a collaborative process where the community and artists are equal contributors. Sometimes it's about solving problems creatively. Sometimes it's about celebrating creatively. Sometimes it's about using the arts to make us see things a little differently. Community cultural development is a unique practice that works creatively with communities on their own ground, on their own issues, through cultural practice.

Find out more about how the arts can be a vehicle to the creation or ongoing development of thriving and inspired communities.
